Visit to Westonbirt
Our last garden visit of the year was to what many would claim is the most important and widely known arboretum in the UK – Westonbirt in Gloucestershire. It contains 18,000 trees and shrubs spread over 600 acres with 17 miles of marked paths, and is renowned for its autumn colour.
Some of the 39 of us who went on our comfortable coach had been to Westonbirt before, but there were two key plus points this time. Firstly, we had two excellent guides, who were full of good stories about the arboretum and took us off the beaten track to see individual trees or particularly good examples of autumn colour. Secondly, we had perfect weather, indeed the sunniest day for several weeks. The combination of the sunshine and the colour was truly stunning, as you can see from the photos.
